His music ranges from charming surprises to soundtracks for bad-ass newscasts. Both of these different sounds remain cohesive within the Lost Years aesthetic through the use of real 1980 synthesizers. We especially like Harbor Heist off the album Black Waves from Decemeber of 2012:

Magnus has been professionally making 1980s-inspired music since 2008. Before he started collecting Roland synthesizers, Magnus spent his time playing guitar in the 80s punk and 90s hardcore scenes a well as developing apps for the iphone.

When asked about the switch to Outrun he says… “I just rediscovered the joy of 80′s synth based music and started trying out that genre. It seems like I had it easy coming to me making that kind of music, and it goes hand in hand with my interest in analogue vintage synths.”

While most modern producers use soft-synths, Magnus’s authentic sound stems from complex sequencing with an arsenal of hardware synthesizers: “I have a bunch of gear in my studio… Juno 106, Juno 60, Juno Alpha, JX-8P, JX-10, JX-3P, JP-8000, JD-800, JV-1080, JD-900, TR-808. Linn Drum LM2, Moog Voyager, ESQ-M, Nord Lead 3, Yamaha TX7. Everything is hooked up to two Motu audio cards and one Alesis AI3 Adat interface.”

When asked about his DAW of choice Magnus says he prefers Ableton Live for its ease of use when handling and hooking up external gear. Although Magnus has a small army of analogue synths, he prefers to use vsts on his master over analogue outboard gear.. “I quit those. Its not worth the hassle, they are also hard to configure to get rid of latency issues.. I use all vst’s for fx and mastering.”

Magnus says making a track usually starts with a glass of wine then a chord progression or arpeggio. “Newer artists like Mitch Murder are a great inspirational source. Movies like Risky Business and the music score it sets gets my inspiration going.” Magnus also states that he’s a huge fan of the Pet Shop Boys.

Lost Years had a busy year with the successful release of his first full length album “Black Waves” and a remix for the Swedish disco princess Sally Shapiro. “I’m very pleased to have a small fan base that seems to grow everyday. Also to have two releases on one of the labels that I looked up to so much earlier when I just started out (and still do) is also a joy in itself.

Today marks the international release of So Real. It’s the debut EP from Silent Gloves with vocals by Patrick Baker and remixes from Miami Nights 1984, Mitch Murder and SIMØNE.

Each artist embellishes Patrick Baker’s smooth voice in their own distinct way, so it’s hard to pick favorites. Certainly this song is our summer anthem of 2013.

Silent Gloves is the eponymous Steve Gillson who is no stranger to the synthwave scene. The radio personality of Project Friday, his talents extend beyond DJing and software engineering to music production. With his clear mastering and 1980s touch, we hope to have more from him soon here on Rosso Corsa Records.

A Swedish Christmas comes early!

Black Waves is the first full-length album from Lost Years and it is being released today for worldwide sales by Rosso Corsa Records. This 14 track album is a journey through dark synthpop mixed with occasional heartfelt relief.

The Lost Years is Magnus Larsson from Avesta, Sweden. His enthusiasm for the 1980s, red wine and collecting Roland synthesizers has led to the Nuclear EP and Black Waves album here on Rosso Corsa Records.

The entire album was written by Magnus for his huge cache of authentic analogue and FM synthesis gear. It makes us wonder exactly which piece of kit has lent its voice to the album.

Today Rosso Corsa Records launches the Sunfield EP by SaiR. With it we welcome producer Ruben Allen from Porto, Portugal to the Rosso family. He has a graduate degree in Graphic Communication from the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham.

Either the warmth of summer Sundays or a glimpse of the carefree 1980s, Sunfield evokes a nostalgic charm across four tracks. The cover depicts Allen’s father in the 1970s-a time filled with pinball machines and dirt bikes.

The entire Sunfield EP is available for preview on Soundcloud and the tracks can be purchased on itunes or Bandcamp within the links below. This is the first major release by SaiR with hopes of future releases to come here on Rosso Corsa.

Today we have the distinct pleasure to introduce Lost Years to the Rosso Corsa family and announce the worldwide release of their first EP: Nuclear.

Three tracks wide, the new EP is a post-Terminator epic inspired by John F Kennedy’s “common enemies of man” inauguration speech. The 1980s run deep in the EP and it’s a new extension of our own Outrun Electro.

Having listened to the Nuclear EP on repeat over the last month, we plan to follow the Lost Years with great anticipation over the summer of 2012.

Today we celebrate the worldwide release of Turbulence, our second feature album from Miami Nights 1984 on Rosso Corsa Records.

Spanning 12 tracks, Turbulence builds upon the synth-pop charms and synthesizer solos from Miami’s first album with more character: orchestra stabs, percussive rushes, slow motion bends and epic interludes distinguish the album. So does the album’s more intense moments which promote the Outrun electro sound we have championed for many years.

Miami Nights has engineered the album for the replay button. Many of the songs are outright hits. It was hard picking just one for our soundcloud page, but High Beams is the album’s penultimate track and has an infectious snare rush worth waiting for:

Miami Nights 1984 is Michael Glover from Victoria, BC, Canada. His obsession with the 1980s has led to the founding of Rosso Corsa Records and a revival of synthesizer music. With Rosso Corsa he is championing many artists such as Mitch Murder, Lazerhawk, Jordan F and Lost years to make 1980s-inspired music with modern fidelity.

Being among the pioneers of this revival, Mike’s first project Actrazer initially defined the Rosso Corsa sound together with output from label co-founder Lazerhawk. They coined their music Outrun, a genre of soundtrack music with epic leads and arpeggiated synths. At the same time, Kavinsky, the Outrunners and the Valerie Collective were all contributing to this new sound.

Since 2010 Michael Glover has been ecstatic about the success of his second project known as Miami Nights 1984 (MN84). Characterized by smooth synthesizers and nostalgic solos, this new sound accentuates the carefree feel of the 1980s.

The Miami Nights sound garnered support on an international scale with the official remix of ‘Somebody I Used To Know.’ by Gotye. It infuses 1980s charm with Gotye’s powerful voices and moody lyrics. Rollings Stone says it’s an “eighties-inspired synth-pop remix, inspired by [mike's] love of old John Hughes films” while VH1 says “It’s a synth-led 80s redux, and it’s pretty rad”

When asked about influences, Mike says he obviously takes from the 80s: “The music, movies, shows, cars and girls are all running through my imagination when I write a piece of music. I’m not happy with a piece of music unless I can imagine it as the soundtrack to a film or show. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed synth-based music like Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre and Ray Lynch.” His name coincides with the original run of the Miami Vice TV show on September 28, 1984.

In creating his sound he uses “a variation of analogue synths and virtual instruments in Abelton Live. I’ve been using more virtual instruments for convenience and ability to leave a project without worrying about getting the same sound again.” Many of the parts are first recorded from live instrumentation and tweaked afterward in Ableton.

“If I had to choose my best track… it would have to be Elevator Of Love or Ocean Drive“. I think many of us would agree with Ocean Drive which is a soundtrack to California’s Pacific Coast Highway or even Ocean Drive on the Miami Beach strip:

When not playing music or designing Rosso artwork Mike is keeps tabs on the Valerie Collective, Binary, Lunar Boogie and Tonite Records. “They are doing great work as far as modern Italo and dreamwave goes.”
